Zhuhai Infrastructure Projects

THE Guangzhou-Zhuhai (freight) Railway is expected to come into operation by 2011, and meanwhile, planning of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is progressing smoothly, it was announced at a press conference on January 18. Research of the environment issues regarding bridge and the sea is to be completed in June.

The Zhuhai Jiuzhou Cargo Terminal relocation project, the railway, Pearl River Delta railroad network Guangzhou-Zhuhai section, Zhuhai Shell lubricating oil project, Beijing-Hong-Kong-Macao Expressway Shaxi in Zhongshan to Hengqin in Zhuhai, Zhuhai Power Plant V and VI units and HK-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge have been listed as 2008 Guangdong Key Projects.

THE city GDP achieved a growth rate of 16.5 per cent, topping 88.68 billion yuan ($12.23 billion) in 2006, a 0.1 percentage point rise from the previous year and the highest growth since 2004.

The GDP maintained a steady increase with growth rate reaching 13.1, 13.8, 16.2 and 16.5 per cent in the four quarters respectively.

The primary industries realized added value of 2.267 billion yuan ($313 million), secondary industries 50.14 billion yuan ($6.92 billion) and the tertiary industries, 36.28 billion yuan ($5 billion) in 2007, up 4, 19.5 and 13.4 per cent respectively.

Industrial added value hit 47.19 billion yuan ($6.5 billion) and gross industrial output value 250.44 billion yuan ($34.54 billion), rises of 20.1 and 18.7 per cent respectively.

Actually utilized foreign capital topped $1.029 billion and introduced domesticly registered capital 2.19 billion yuan ($302 million), up 24.8 and 58 per cent.

Fiscal revenue reached 7.58 billion yuan ($1.05 billion), a 25.8 per cent rise over the previous year. Expenditures totaled 8.28 billion yuan ($1.14 billion), a 17.5 per cent increase.

Disposable per capita income of urban dwellers reached 19,290 yuan ($2,661), a year-on-year rise of 9.2 per cent. Per capita annual income of farmers and fishers was 7,622 yuan ($1,051), an 8.8 per cent increase.

About 19,320 new cars were registered last year, and so now there are 22.5 cars for every 100 households, rises of 22.8 and 28.6 per cent respectively.
